Got mine today as planned. Listened to the whole album one spin so far.

One should not judge too much after just one listen, but at the moment I haven't grabbed too much of the album. It feels in general like the riffs are stronger, but the melodies are weaker, if you compare it with "Dreamland Manor". The drumsound is a bit thin if you ask me. "Ballad of Susan" is miles behind the ballad on the debut, "Beyond Reality".

Riffs, guitarsolos, the vocals of Jens is very good, though. Fave songs after one spin would be "Ordeal", "Chasing The Rainbow" and "From The Ashes".

It shall be interesting to 'grow' with this album, but I doubt that I will ever give it 10/10 like Robbie

Good to hear someone with the same thinking as me ;)! I'm glad that you like it like me :D But after some listening I have to agree a bit about the drumming.. It's good. But I really like Thomens "licks" you know, he changes speed and such just like that like in DM's "Waltz of The Demon" Where he changes speed in the last bridge+chorus. I really like that! But I cant complain on Mike's drumming I would've just liked to see a bit of that mentioned above in this album. I really like Ballad Of Susan, and in the end Mike goes killing on the drums! I love that! One song that I really like from this album (I love them all 100%) it is Devil's spawn,, and I could include Empire there too! Really strong choruses! I also like the instrumental "Dreamland" It's not long but it kinda sounds a bit like a mix between Persuader's (Jens and Emil's other band) Secrets and Zion! To wrap this up,, One sentence: What a FUCKING GREAT album!

Off-topic.

Listened some hours again to this album. I gotta say that "Ballad Of Susan" is a big disappointment! I'm not a big fan of ballads, but "Beyond Reality" is a really good one, so I had kinda hoped SC would write another killer-ballad...well, the one on "ODAD" is not.

"From The Ashes" is my absolute fave song at the moment. Really damn great! It has the riffs, heaviness and the melodies. "Chasing The Rainbow" is close at 2nd.

Best intro of the album gotta go to "Legend (Of Leto II)". Starts out really good, and is a great song in general too, but has a quite weak chorus I think.

The album has grown on me on the big whole, so it's going in a positive direction this :)

Listen to the intro of From the ashes, doesnt one part of it sound like the intro of "Waltz of the demon"? It does to me, I was ready to sing like "Grey as the skies, cold as the wind" then I remembered that its the wrong CD, haha

It is indeed the very same riffing and smashing on the drums, I know which part you mean. It sounds meaner on "From The Ashes", though. And btw. it's from "Tomorrowland"

Hi guys,

first of all, I really had problems to buy the album.
I tried it in four markets one day after release - no chance. "We can order it for you" was all I heard. Same with "musicload" one big german Online-Seller like iTunes.
That´s where I bought it in the end. I know there are some special catalogues like EMP but I wanted to have it as soon as possible, I wanted it NOW.

What do I think about it?
It´s great. Don´t want to compare it with the old album yet cause I listened to it a thousend times and only about a dozen to odad but it has the speed, it has the melody and the special :D .

Don´t care about the balads, never liked them. If I wanne listend to slow paced stuff there is more then enough out there. I adore the old Blind Guardian albums and so I do with the music of Savage Circus.

Hope the tour comes up soon (tried it three times three years ago without success) and we don´t have to wait for the next album another four years.

Keep up the brilliant work!

So what you're saying is that just because there's speed, it means that it's good? Can't agree with that completely.

Hehe, anyway! There's three songs that still haven't caught me. "Devil's Spawn", "Empire" and the "Ballad Of Susan"...and should I count "Dreamland" as a 'song'? Feels more like an outro, and can't say that it's too interesting.

The titletrack has grown, holy shit it has grown. Especially the "ooh-ooh-ooh" darker-themed parts is brilliant, and extra spiced with the 'breaking the power - forever' at the end. Awesome! :)

Yeah your right. That´s not what I wanted to say.
Speed is essential but not adequate. There is the melody, the sound of the voice, the rhythm, the choirs, the lyrics, the sound of the song as a whole. All that must fit together. If it would be just speed, you could listen to Marduk or other fast playing death metal bands.

Haha, well, that's probably why I don't like it  Nah I don't know, the melodies doesn't really click, and not so interesting riffs in it either. I'd say "Empire" is the weakest of the 'real' songs. Ballad and instrumental excluded. But we're all different with different opinions.

@ speed - yeah:

Hehe OK, I see what you mean.

Allright! Some time has passed now and as I said in another topic, "ODAD" has surely grown on me. The only songs I cannot manage to listen to nowadays are the generic "Devil's Spawn" and the ballad.

"Empire" is a good song now, compared to what I thought before. A good rhythm and energic song.

I like the overall groove that is nicely spread out over the album, Jens vocals and so. "From The Ashes" is still the best song for me bytheway. It's awesome! :)
